What We've Done

The Sandhills Task Force

The Sandhills Task Force, a coalition of ranchers, conservationists and government, works to control erosion in the highly fragile area once known as the Great American Desert. Jumbo Fen, a revitalized natural peat wetland that lies in a picturesque valley in Cherry County, is one of many resource success stories. Click Here for more.

Recycling For Our Children

The Trust's investments in the technology of recycling has kept more than 7 million tons of glass, paper, aluminum, steel and cardboard out of landfill sites. This diversion represents a savings of more than $150 million in landfill fees, while creating jobs and economic opportunity on the local level. Click Here for more.

Corngrowers Buffer Strips Pilot Program

The Nebraska Corn Growers Association is field-testing buffer strips at the edges of productive corn, soybean and milo fields under a grant from the Trust. The project is enormously popular, with waiting lists of producers who want to participate. Click Here for more.

The Greening Of Main Street

As the home of National Arbor Day, Nebraska has a love affair with trees. From the Omaha World-Herald's Branching Out Program to science class projects to the Community Green Spaces Program of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Nebraskans find ways to beautify their communities, provide shade, habitat and color. Students learn about ecosystems, biology and earth sciences. Water quality is protected and energy conserved. Click Here for more.
